Brake cylinders function under severe pressures, sometimes exceeding 150 bar (15 MPa) during emergency stops. We utilize nodular cast iron (ductile iron) and lightweight anodized aluminum alloys. Ductile iron provides the high tensile strength required for commercial Citroen vehicles, such as the Citroen Jumper and Relay vans, which endure high payload-induced brake system loads. Aluminum designs, typical in passenger models like the Citroen C1 and C3, minimize unsprung mass, contributing to the vehicles' dynamic driving characteristics.
The weakest link in any hydraulic system is its seal. Our factory uses premium ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber compounds, which are compatible with DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 glycol-ether based brake fluids. These seals resist swelling and maintain their flexibility at extreme temperatures from -40°C to +120°C. This prevents seal degradation under heavy braking, which can lead to hazardous pressure loss.
Our internal cylinder bores are honed to a surface finish roughness (Ra) of less than 0.25 microns. This mirror-like finish reduces friction and extends the service life of the primary and secondary seals. Each cylinder undergoes automated pneumatic leak tests to ensure 100% seal integrity before shipment.
